Do you love drawing with color pencils, but wish you were able to capture the people and things around you in a more accurate and life-like way?  Through the discipline of still life drawing from direct observation students learn how geometry, lighting, and a variety of rendering techniques combine to create the stirring illusion of 3-dimensional space.  Discover the academic tradition of using measuring tools, such as a level, viewfinder, and proportional divider to create well-balanced compositions, exact angles, and correct proportions. Students will complete their colored pencil renderings using the “grisaille” method –– in which layers of translucent colored pencil are applied atop one another (with the aid of odorless mineral spirits), mimicking the effect of glazing in oil paint.
