Spring Break Art Camp “Around the World”

In conjunction with Polk Museum of Art’s “Material World” and “Hungry Planet” exhibitions, students will learn about countries around the world. Each class will be 5 days of fun filled activities for happy campers to serious artists!

- Explore “Material World”, photographs by Peter Menzel – What do families in other countries hold valuable? Do their possessions define who they are?
- Explore “Hungry Planet”, photographs by Peter Menzel – What do families in other counties eat? Is it different from what you eat?
- Art activities will be themed around the arts from cultures around the world.

Dates/Time:

March 12 – March 16, 2012
9:00am-4:30pm

Classes:

Students will rotate through 3 classes taught by Rick Olivo and Kristen Holland.

Sculpture – Stimulate the imagination creating pots and figures based on art from other cultures. A variety of media will be used such as clay, paper mache and found objects.
Drawing & Painting - Experiment with a variety of drawing and painting media creating designs from other countries.
Performance & Stage Craft – Perform an on stage production! Learn costuming and acting techniques for a special performance in front of friends and family. For those that don’t want to be in the spotlight: learn Stage Crafting. Design and build the scenery and props for the performance.

$130 for PMoA Members
$150 Non-Members
(Fees include materials)

Daily Schedule:

Time Activity
8:45am-9:00am Students Arrive
9:00am-11:00am 1st class (1st period)
11:00am-12:00pm Supervised lunch (Students bring lunch)
12:00pm-2:00pm 2nd class (2nd period)
2:00pm-2:30pm Snack time (Museum provides snack)
2:30pm-4:30pm 3rd class (3rd period)
4:30pm Parents/Guardians pick up their children

Refunds:

No cancellation refund after March 2.
