Intro to Summer Art Camp:

Summer Art provides children, 5 – 13 years old, the opportunity to meet new people, to learn new things, and to have FUN!

Summer Art classes are broken down into 4 sessions. Each session is 2 weeks long, 5 days a week. A student can choose up to 3 classes a day. Each individual class runs 2 hours a day for 2 weeks. Tuition is calculated by the number of classes a student takes over the whole summer. (See “Class Tuition” below)

Session Dates: (2012)

Session #1 (Swingin’ 40s):      June 11 – 22
Session #2 (Rockin’ 50s):       June 25 – July 6 (No class on July 4)
Session #3 (Groovy 60s):       July 9 – 20
Session #4 (Funky 70s):         July 23 – August 3

Theme: Exploring the 1940s-1970s

Summer Art Camp is kicking it back to the days of gum wrapper chains, tie-dye, string art, macramé, smiley face stickers and the chicken dance!

Sticking with the basic instruction of Drawing, Painting, Sculpture, Photography, etc….Summer Art Campers will draw inspiration from American art, culture, fads, decor, fashion and architecture from the 1940s-1970s. Art activities will be themed and project based around the decade specific to their session.

• Digital Photography: Learn more about your digital camera. Please Note: Students must provide own digital camera.

• Drawing: Explore your creativity through a variety of dry media. (Pencil, pastel, crayon, charcoal, etc.)

• Fashion Design: Learn color, pattern and design for art you can wear.

• Graphic Art: Create artwork using a computer. (Adobe Photoshop Elements)

• Mixed Media: Create artwork from non-traditional media and found objects.

• Painting: Explore your creativity through wet media. (Tempera and watercolor)

• Performance: Create an on-stage production to perform in front of family and friends.

• Printmaking: Printing with various materials. (Relief print, bookmaking, journaling, stenciling, t-shirt design, etc.)

• Sculpture: Sculpt forms and figures with a variety of media including clay and paper mache.

• Textile: Learn a variety of techniques with fabric and fibers. (Weaving, dying, molding, etc.)

Daily Schedule:

8:45am-9:00am Students Arrive
9:00am-11:00am 1st class (1st period)
11:00am-12:00pm Supervised lunch (Students bring lunch)
12:00pm-2:00pm 2nd class (2nd period)
2:00pm-2:30pm Snack time (Museum provides snack)
2:30pm-4:30pm 3rd class (3rd period)
4:30pm Parents/Guardians pick up their children

Please Note: Students cannot be dropped off more than 15 minutes before their first class. (I.E. If the students first class is at 12:00pm, he or she should not be dropped off any earlier than 11:45am.) Lunch time and snack time are only for those that have a class before and after lunch time or snack time. Students are to be picked up promptly after their last class.

$100 for PMoA Members, $115 Non-Members
(Fees include materials unless otherwise noted)

Discounts are available for students taking more than one class. A second class is $5 off and a third class is $10 off. Save $15 for every 3 classes you take.

*Please note: A Family/Household Membership level is required to qualify for class discounts for children.

Each class is 2 hours long and will run the length of a full Session – 2 weeks. (Monday-Friday) A full day (9:00am-4:30pm) consists of taking 3 classes.

Please Note: Tuition will not be prorated due to a students absence. The Museum also does not allow registration for half a session, considering all classes are curriculum based. All classes start at a entry level and progress during the 2 week time period.

Refunds:

If a class is canceled due to low enrollment, a full refund will be available. If a class is not canceled and refund is requested, a reimbursement will be made in full up to seven days prior to the class starting date. No reimbursement will be made after the seven-day period.

Meet the Instructors:

All classes are taught by Certified Art Teachers and/or Art Professionals. All teachers and Museum staff are background checked through the Jessica Lunsford Act.
