Polk Museum of Art’s Education Department hosts group tours year-round for both children and adults.

Scheduling a Tour

Fifth Grade Tours

Through a contracted agreement with Polk County Public Schools, every fifth grade student will visit the Museum at some time during the school year. This means approximately 6,000 students walk through the Museum for a guided tour per year. 5th grade tours are scheduled Mondays through Fridays at 10am, and are 90 minutes in length. A Museum docent leads the tour which includes an interactive activity. The Museum requires one chaperone per ten students.

Other Groups

Docent led tours can be arranged for any age or grade level. Tours can not be scheduled from 10:00am – Noon during the school year due to our contractual obligation to tour fifth graders from Polk County public schools during that time period. A minimum of ten people is required for a docent-led tour, and tours must be arranged at least two weeks in advance. The Museum requires one chaperone per ten students (K-12). A chaperone is not required for college students or adults.  Adult tours are $3 per person with a docent fee of $20 per group. Student tours will only be charged the $20 docent fee per group. The docent fee will be waived if no docent is required. (Special exhibition fees may apply.)

Agencies wanting the tour fee waived for their group must send a formal letter to the Museum (on agency letterhead) a minimum of two weeks prior to their scheduled tour. The letter must state the reason(s) why they want their fee waived.

During the Summer months (mid-June through end of August), group tours can be scheduled any time during regular Museum hours, Tuesday through Friday.

Self-Guided Tours

You and your group are always invited to visit the museum on your own (without a docent guide) anytime during regular museum hours. However, regular admission fees will still apply. To schedule a tour for your group (either guided or un-guided), call PMoA’s Education Office at 863-688-5423.

Curator Tours

This drop-in tour program is held on one Friday per major exhibition, and run from 12:15 – 1:00pm. These tours are FREE with regular Museum admission. Please see our Events section for upcoming Curator Tours.
