Begun as a crafts fair on the lawn of the Lakeland Public Library, MIDFLORIDA Mayfaire by-the-Lake has grown into one of Florida’s premier outdoor art festivals. Held on Mother’s Day weekend each year, Mayfaire is located on the shores of beautiful Lake Morton in downtown Lakeland, Florida. Mayfaire is one of the largest and oldest outdoor art festivals in Central Florida and is on Sunshine Artist magazine’s prestigious “Best 200 Art Shows” list as number 20. Come see why it has such a great reputation!

  • About 165 artists: With so many to choose from, you’re sure to find one you love! From jewelers, to clay artists, to painters; landscapes and wildlife to pure abstraction, any artistic taste will be satisfied.

  • Free parking and shuttle service: Free parking is available at Florida Southern College on the corner of Johnson and Frank Lloyd Wright Way. A free shuttle will run between the parking lot and the festival.

  • MayFerrys: Free shuttles will run around Lake Morton and to the Museum during the festival.

The chefs on-site will be cooking up fresh Greek cuisine, including gyro sandwiches, chicken divine and Greek salads; hand-dipped chicken-on-a-stick, char-grilled chicken and chicken kabobs; gourmet hamburgers; Asian cuisine, such as rice bowls topped with seasoned sausage, chicken or steak, and favorites for the youngest patrons, including hand-dipped corn dogs and funnel cakes.  Ice-cold beer, soda and fresh-squeezed lemonade will be available at convenient locations around Lake Morton.

  • Live entertainment: Local musicians, dance companies, and VSA of Florida perform on stage on the shady front lawn of Lakeland Public Library throughout the weekend. Community members interested in performing on the Library Lawn stage may contact the Mayfaire office beginning in January 2016.  Call 863.688.7743, ext. 237.

  • Hands-on Children’s Art Tent and Kids Zone: Located in the Museum’s parking lot, this part of Mayfaire includes several FREE art activities designed for participation by children of ALL abilities, as well as bounce houses, a rock climbing wall and a local caricature artist, Dennis Hart. (Bounce houses, rock wall and caricature drawings have a fee.)

NEW: This year, we are excited to dedicate a section of our Children's Art Tent to the Arts for All  art making equipment, created by Dwayne Szot. These one-of-a-kind tools offer individuals with limited movement or lack of fine motor skills the opportunity to paint and print their way through the arts by use of the mobility they do have.  Everyone is invited to experience this creative art making process.

Volunteers are always needed for this happy area. Volunteer application.

Alison Claire LaMons, 54, is a freshly emerging Lakeland artist after years of a rather unconventional path of study, travel and employment, including two years abroad in Europe for study in Paris with The Parson's School of Design, in conjunction with the French National Museum; a student internship in Venice, Italy with the Peggy Guggenheim Museum of Modern Art; an Au Paire position in Innsbruck, Austria; and a sailing excursion across the Pacific Ocean on a 38' ketch as a crew member, navigating by sextant alone.

LaMons' later studies included a degree in Biblical Studies from Columbia International University, architectural design work, marriage and homeschooling motherhood.

A self-taught artist, LaMons' vivid and colorful "Neon Nostalgia" sign paintings (both historic and invented), done with a tropical-industrial flair, are being acclaimed in prestigious art shows, galleries and museums across the country.
