Join us for Summer Art Camp! Give your child (ages 7-13) a FUN, CREATIVE and OPEN atmosphere to develop their love and appreciation for the arts. Camp classes offer the freedom to explore artistic interests through creativity, medium, technique, interpretation and reflection.

Celebrating 50 Years!

This summer, we are taking an adventure through the evolution of the Polk Museum of Art permanent collection. Celebrating our 50th year, students will gain inspiration from famous artists highlighted in the Museum’s collection such as (but definitely not limited to) Picasso, Matisse, Warhol, Lichtenstein, Rauschenberg, Hirst and the new Ruben Ubiera mural. Each class will focus on several artists to stimulate and inspire our camper's imagination.

Sessions

Session 1:     June 13 - 24
Session 2:     June 27 - July 8 (no classes July 4th)
Session 3:     July 11 - 22
Session 4:     July 25 - August 5

Class Descriptions

All classes explore artistic interests through creativity, medium, technique, interpretation and reflection.

  • Crafts - Dabble in artistic practices within the family of decorative arts: pottery, metal work, weaving, paper, etc.
  • Create-A-Skate - Create and design your own one-of-a-kind 100% legit skateboard deck. (+ $20 material fee)
  • Digital Photography - Learn to capture and manipulate your own stunning photos using an iPad (iPad provided by the Museum).
  • Drawing - Explore one of the major forms of expression through a variety of drawing mediums; pencil, marker, pastel, charcoal, etc.
  • Mixed Media - Create art where more than one medium is being used. Learn to create by combining traditional and non-traditional media.
  • Painting - Explore one of the major forms of expression through a variety of paint mediums; tempera, watercolor, acrylic, etc.
  • Performance - Work as a team to create a play, to dress the part and perform in front of family and friends.
  • Printmaking - Explore the process of making artwork by printing. Use of a variety of printing techniques; relief print, mono-print, stencil, screen print, etc.
  • Sculpture - Learn to create three dimensional artwork out of clay, papier-mâché, found objects, plaster, etc.
  • Special Effects Makeup - Learn how to apply movie makeup to create all sorts of fun effects; blood gags, prosthetic pieces, hair, etc.
  • Stop Motion Animation - Explore character performance using 2D, 3D and stop motion methods of production to create your own short film with an iPad.

    • 9:00am-1:30pm (includes lunch)
    • 11:30-4:00pm (includes snack)
  • All materials

Partial Day (One Class) for two weeks: $100 for Museum Members, $120 Non-Members

Includes:

  • 9:00am-11:00am or 11:30am-1:30pm or 2:00-4:00pm
  • Two-week session

The Museum does not allow registration for half of a session, as all classes are based on a two week curriculum . Class projects span the duration of the two-week time period.

Before/After Camp Care (optional)

$100 per student/per session - Fee is in addition to full day tuition fee (3 classes). No partial payments. Care is 8am-5pm. (Regular all-day camp hours are 9:00am-4pm.)

Late Registration

Any registrations submitted after a session deadline will have an additional $35 fee added to the total tuition fee.

All classes are taught by Certified Art Teachers and/or Art Professionals. Teachers and Museum staff undergo a background check as required in the Jessica Lunsford Act.

Refunds

Refunds will be made in full up to seven days prior to the class starting date. No refund will be given after the seven-day period.

Class Materials

Basic materials (including use of iPads) are provided unless otherwise noted.

Scholarships

A limited number of need-based scholarships for Summer Art Camp are available to those that have a love for the arts.
