Macy’s has presented Polk Museum of Art with a $2,000 grant to buy materials for an art cart to serve pediatric patients at Lakeland Regional Medical Center.
The art cart for LRMC’s 47-bed children’s wing has been specially fitted with wheels and a handle so that it can be moved into the new pediatric emergency room as well as into children’s rooms. LRMC has the busiest single-site emergency room in the state of Florida and often has children waiting for test results and X-rays. “A mobile cart allows our volunteers to ‘go where the kids are’ to help keep them happy and occupied while they wait,” said Leticia Miller, PMoA’s Curator of Education.
The grant was among the first awarded in 2011 through Macy’s invitational district grants, and PMoA was invited to apply. Mark C. Misenheimer, general manager of the Macy’s at Lakeland Square Mall, presented the check at the January PMoA Board of Trustees meeting.
