EDUCATION ASSISTANT

We are currently hiring a part-time Education Assistant to manage all aspects of the student gallery and support the Museum's Education Department clerical functions as they relate to programs and needs of the Education Department. 

Shift/Hours:     20 hours/week, Monday - Friday and some Saturdays (flex-time as needed)

AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY

Student Gallery: Manage all nine student exhibitions in accordance with the Polk County School Boards Fine Arts Department; database, judging, and managing reception/award ceremony details. Also responsible for all details involving the VSA, 15th Congressional Art Competition, and any other special student exhibitions.

Clerical: Provide clerical support for the department; manage class registrations and maintain class rosters.  Help coordinate daily operations of programs, including supply inventory; maintain registration records and attendance numbers for education classes, workshops, outreach and education department programs.  Help support all scheduled department events as needed.

Special Events: Assist with Mayfaire and other events as needed.

Scholarships: Works with Education Manager to implement the scholarship program.

All Museum staff members may be called upon at any time, as a member of the staff team, to work in other areas or take on additional responsibilities when necessary.  This document is a general description of the position listed.

TRAINING AND SKILLS REQUIRED

Bachelors Degree preferred. High school diploma or GED required.  

Experience working with teachers, children and volunteers preferred.  

Should have excellent interpersonal skills, work well with children and adults, and project a pleasant personality with enthusiasm and thoughtfulness.  

Must have understanding of different art media.

Must be computer literate with excellent office skills.

Should have a demonstrated ability to follow guidelines and coordinate program details.

Be highly organized, pay attention to detail and have exceptional follow through.

Strive for excellence and dress appropriately for the Education Department.
