MIDFLORIDA Mayfaire by-the-Lake 2017
Saturday, May 13, 2017 — Sunday, May 14, 2017
9:00 am to 4:00 pm
Begun as a crafts fair on the lawn of the Lakeland Public Library, the Polk Museum of Art's MIDFLORIDA Mayfaire by-the-Lake has grown into one of Florida’s premier outdoor art festivals. Held on Mother’s Day weekend each year, Mayfaire is located on the shores of beautiful Lake Morton in downtown Lakeland, Florida. Mayfaire is one of the largest and oldest outdoor art festivals in Central Florida and is on Sunshine Artist magazine’s prestigious “Best 200 Art Shows” list as number 20. Come see why it has such a great reputation!
- About 160 artists: With so many to choose from, you’re sure to find one you love! From jewelers, to clay artists, to painters; landscapes and wildlife to pure abstraction, any artistic taste will be satisfied. This is a juried show, and you can learn more about this year's judge, Jennifer Sudul Edwards, here.
- Free parking and shuttle service: Free parking is available at Florida Southern College on the corner of Johnson and Frank Lloyd Wright Way. A free shuttle will run between the parking lot and the festival.
- MayFerrys: Free shuttles will run around Lake Morton and to the Museum during the festival.
- Accessibility. We’ve made a number of changes to this year’s MIDFLORIDA Mayfaire by-the-Lake to improve event accessibility for people of all abilities. Learn more here.
Food and beverage vendors: New to the event this year are elevated food options that pair well with viewing and purchasing fine art. Learn more about those pairings here.
There will be food to appeal to most any palate. The chefs on-site will be cooking up fresh Greek cuisine, including gyro sandwiches, chicken divine and Greek salads; hand-dipped chicken-on-a-stick, char-grilled chicken and chicken kabobs; gourmet hamburgers; Asian cuisine, such as rice bowls topped with seasoned sausage, chicken or steak, and favorites for the youngest patrons, including hand-dipped corn dogs and funnel cakes. Ice-cold beer, soda and fresh-squeezed lemonade will be available at convenient locations around Lake Morton.
Live entertainment: Local musicians, dance companies, and VSA of Florida perform on stage on the shady front lawn of Lakeland Public Library throughout the weekend. Community members interested in performing on the Library Lawn stage may contact the Mayfaire office beginning in January 2016. Call 863.688.7743, ext. 237.
Hands-on Children’s Art Tent: The Children's Art Tent is moving back on the lake this year! Located on Chiles Street just north of the Lakeland Library, the Polk Museum of Art and VSA Arts combine efforts to provide a variety of FREE hands-on art activities designed for participation by children of ALL abilities.
CALL FOR VOLUNTEERS: Each year, dozens of volunteers help make the success of our festival possible. We have opportunities for all, no matter your skill set.
