Public Lecture with Humberto Castro

Join us to hear artist Humberto Castro speak about the exhibition for his ongoing project, Tracing Antilles. After spending his early life and early career in Cuba, Castro immigrated to Paris in 1989 and then to Miami in 1999. His own experiences of migration and feelings of displacement inspired him to investigate the evolution of culture in the islands of Greater Antilles (Cuba, Haiti and the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Jamaica, and the Cayman Islands). The project seeks to explore impressions, or traces, of collective experience that still influence the Caribbean psyche and artistic expression today.
