The Working Artist LIVE: Carol Prusa

Ever wonder what a day in the life of a working artist is like? Where their inspiration comes from or how they create their incredible pieces of art? You’re in luck! Our amazing Curatorial team is bringing you an artist a week for the month of June — LIVE!  You’ll get a unique opportunity to interact directly with 5 brilliant artists whose work we hold in our collection.  Each week you’ll get to peek into their studio spaces, to learn about their backgrounds, and to ask them ANY and all questions about their careers, creative processes, and even advice for other aspiring art world stars.

Join Loren Hicks, Collections Manager & Registrar, along with our guest artist, Carol Prusa, Tuesday, June 9 at 6 pm on Facebook Live

A little about our guest: Carol Prusa is a mid-career contemporary artist known for her meticulous silverpoint technique and use of unexpected materials from sculpted resin and fiberglass to metal leaf and LED lights. Prusa has always had a strong interest in science and earned a B.S. in Biocommunications/Medical Illustration from the University of Illinois in 1980. She received her M.F.A. (Painting, Drawing) from Drake University in 1985 and taught art at Drake University and at Iowa State University for several years.

While working toward her degree, she sensed that the creative limitations of work of a medical illustrator would not satisfy her desire to “think differently every day and be challenged – not provide product. I figured painting was a place where I would never be satisfied so it would be a challenging and engaging life – and that I would have to learn new things all the time.”

Prusa lives and works in South Florida and exhibits internationally, including at Brintz Gallery/375 Gallery (Palm Beach) and Bluerider Art (Taipei). Her work is included in excellent public and private collections, including the Perez Art Museum (Miami), The Museum of Arts and Design (NYC), Telfair Art Museum (Savannah), and the Francie Bishop Good and David Horvitz Collection.
