We have decided to postpone this virtual event to Thursday, June 4 at 6 pm!
Ever wonder what a day in the life of a working artist is like? Where their inspiration comes from or how they create their incredible pieces of art? You’re in luck! Our amazing Curatorial team is bringing you an artist a week for the month of June — LIVE! You’ll get a unique opportunity to interact directly with 5 brilliant artists whose work we hold in our collection. Each week you’ll get to peek into their studio spaces, to learn about their backgrounds, and to ask them ANY and all questions about their careers, creative processes, and even advice for other aspiring art world stars.
Join Loren Hicks, Collections Manager & Registrar, along with our first guest artist, Reynier Llanes, Tuesday, June 2 at 6 pm on Facebook Live!
A little about our guest: Reynier Llanes was born in Pinar del Rio, Cuba, and attended the city’s school of art (Instructores de Arte) for four years, completing his studies in 2004. Llanes was tutored by one of the country’s most recognized realist artists, Juan Miguel Suárez, who taught him how to transform his paintings with more realistic color and techniques. Despite his growth as a professional visual artist in Cuba, Reynier felt restricted by the day-to-day limitations on art expression imposed by the nation’s government and the resultant constraints on making a living as an artist.
In 2007, LIanes emigrated from Cuba and moved to the United States, where he now resides in Miami, Florida. A masterful landscape and portrait artist, he paints in oil and, uniquely, the novel medium of Cuban espresso coffee on canvas and archival paper to capture the essence of cross-cultural environments, people, traditions, and belief systems.
