Member Exclusive: A Brief-ish History of Dada

Boulevard_du_Temple_by_Daguerre.jpg

2020: We may never have lived in a more nonsensical, Duchampian time. The world as we knew it six months ago has been turned completely upside-down. What better time then to discuss Dada art? Dada was arguably the most impactful movement of the 20th century; made famous by Marcel Duchamp as its figurehead, Dada rose out of World War I as a way to grapple with the absurdities of the art world and of the world at large. From ready-made art to photo-collage, Dada artists proved to be the most experimental and polemical artists of their period.

In this Member-Exclusive event, join Dr. Alex Rich, Executive Director and Chief Curator, for an interactive LIVE Zoom discussion during which you will learn and chat together about the curious history of Dada — from its beginnings in the early 20th century through World War II and beyond. Along the way, Dr. Rich will explore the legacy of Dada by pointing to key works from the Museum's permanent collection that we would call "Dada-esque" today.

Indeed, once you've taken this one-night crash course, you will never look at our crazy world the same way again.

RSVP below and we’ll send you a link to join via Zoom! Please complete your registration by 5 pm on September 24, 2020 to receive the link.
