Get ready for the 2022-2023 season of Cinéma Art Historique! This free-admission film series is designed to explore the connections between art history and cinema. After each screening, enjoy a Q&A and discussion with Dr. Alex Rich, Executive Director and Chief Curator, about how the evening's film aligns with the histories and stories it strives to tell.
Next up: Camille Claudel 1915 (2013). This film explores the life of Auguste Rodin’s protégé (and later mistress), Camille Claudel, as she struggles to find her identity as an artist and becomes confined to an asylum in the South of France by her family, where she will never sculpt again. Inspired by letters between Claudel and her brother, poet Paul Claudel, the story of Camille Claudel's 29-year confinement is in itself a tale of defiance against social norms - and a testament to the power of creativity and fortitude.
The film screening and Q&A will be held in the Polk Museum of Art's Auditorium.
