The Art of Film presents a forum for appreciating movies as an art form. With audience Q&A and talkback sessions with film directors and faculty from Florida Southern College following each screening, this unique Polk Museum series will entertain, engage, and educate audiences of all ages. 

Columbus (2017)

Director: Kogonada

Synopsis: When a renowned architecture scholar falls suddenly ill during a speaking tour, his son Jin finds himself stranded in Columbus, Ind., a small Midwestern city celebrated for its many significant modernist buildings. Jin strikes up a friendship with Casey, a young architecture enthusiast who works at the local library. As their intimacy develops, Jin and Casey explore both the town and their own conflicted emotions.

Director Bio: Kogonada, is a South Korean-born American filmmaker known for his debut film Columbus as well as his video essays: short videos which analyze the content, form, and structure of films and television series generally through narration and editing. His video essays often highlight a particular aesthetic used by film directors. He is a regular contributor for Sight & Sound magazine and is frequently commissioned by North American home video distributor The Criterion Collection to create supplemental videos for its releases.
