Each month (September to May), participants will be introduced to one of the Museum’s exhibitions in a fun and accessible, hands-on learning experience for all ages. Labs are led by professional artists or art educators who will guide participants in creating their own artwork. Using a array of mediums and techniques, the project will relate to an exhibition on display in the Museum.
This month's Art Lab will compliment the current exhibitions Material World: A Global Family Portrait and Hungry Planet: What the World Eats, led by Pierre and Cathy Dutertre.
Explore universal consumption and the impact on our world. Enjoy a presentation on photographers David Menzel, Chris Jordan, and others that have explored our world’s consumption. Participants will follow the presentation with a hands-on storyboarding project to tell their individual stories of consumption – leading to simple art projects to follow on using photography or other mediums.
INSTRUCTORS: Pierre and Cathy Dutertre
Pierre and Cathy Dutertre have been making photographs together for well over ten years, as a husband and wife duo, from commercial projects and fine art ventures that reflect their varied individual and complex pasts.
They project their unique psyches with expressive and reflective imagery of the world and their presence within it, seeking answers to metaphysical questionings through a symbiotic creative collaboration.
Their images reflect a constant quest for spiritual, existential and philosophical pondering, a somber search at times for the essence of life and the world around them.
As career artists , Pierre and Cathy are constantly engaged in the many aspects of art, from producing new engaging work on a regular basis, to mentoring other artists, judging competitions worldwide. They own and manage a fine art photography gallery, representing photographic artists from Europe and the US.
