Walking Through Mayfaire: Festival Favorites from the Permanent Collection

The Polk Museum of Art’s annual fine art festival, Mayfaire by-the-Lake, has been a Lakeland tradition for 50 years now. Thousands of visitors from far and wide — and right here in town — travel to Lake Morton each Mother’s Day weekend to mingle with working artists, shop for art in all media, listen to live entertainment, enjoy festival food, and commune with friends and family.

Mayfaire‘s popularity speaks to the heart of the Museum’s educational mission: to bring exceptional art experiences to our entire community. And, while much of the history of art and museum exhibitions focus necessarily on artists of the past, Mayfaire also spotlights the importance of museums’ ongoing support of living artists.

Thus, in 2022, as Mayfaire celebrates its 50th anniversary, we thought there was no better time than now for the Museum to open its vaults to reveal its own Mayfaire collectibles. Indeed, this installation features a selection of some of our favorite Mayfaire artists, award-winning exhibitors whose work we have enjoyed while Walking Through Mayfaire and have added to our own permanent collection over the decades.
