Scholastic Art and Writing Awards

Loukas Rishavy, A Tree That Won't Die, Colored Pencil and Pigment-Davenport School of the Arts-Grade 8-Teacher Kyndil Rogers-Gold Key-American Visions Nominee

The Polk Museum of Art is thrilled to host the nationally-renowned 99th annual Scholastic Art and Writing Awards for the Polk County, Florida Art Region. Presented by the Alliance for Young Artists & Writers, the Scholastic Awards initiative invited students grades 7-12 (ages 13 and up) to submit their original works produced across all media to have a chance to have their work recognized in the nation’s longest-running and most prestigious scholarship and recognition program.

During the fall of 2021, over 438 pieces of artwork were submitted by 216 Polk County students for our regional judging. Of those submissions, 108 were selected as Regional Award Winners who received Honorable Mentions, Silver Keys, and Gold Keys. Of those works, our region’s 24 Gold Key winners continued on to the national judging, giving these students the opportunity to win additional awards, scholarships, and recognition within the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards.

Congratulations to all of the Honorable Mention, Silver Key, and Gold Key winners displayed in the exhibition! This year, we also have the honor of congratulating Jazmine Neloms from Harrison School for the Arts on placing as a National Gold American Visions Medalist for her piece, "Veil".

The Polk County Scholastic Art and Writing Awards are made possible by the generosity of Joy and Michael Martin.
