[Watch] Collection in Focus Richard Segalman Lecture

Featuring artworks removed from storage just for the day and for those who attend, this talk will focus on works by artist Richard Segalman (1934-2021) and be led by William Meek, the Director Emeritus of Harmon-Meek Gallery, Naples, Florida. Meek has more than 45 years of experience as a fine art dealer and is highly regarded for his knowledge of American art. Over the decades, Meek has endeavored to promote artists and their reputations among museums, biographers, and academics, including helping to grow the Florida Southern College Figurative American Art Collection housed at the Polk Museum of Art.

The Polk Museum of Art is proud to lay claim to more than 60 of Segalman’s works, including pastels, watercolors, monotypes, and oil paintings. Segalman was born in Coney Island, New York in 1934, and the timeless American-ness of his iconic birthplace seems to echo the timelessness one feels when looking at his work in any medium. Segalman passed in 2021, and this event will offer a retrospective glimpse of Segalman’s 60-year career.
