Polk Museum of Art Offers Art (Un)Boxed for the Holidays

Lakeland, FL (November 19, 2020) – The Polk Museum of Art is excited to announce it has re-launched its popular Art (Un)Boxed program just in time for the holidays. The kits were first released in Summer 2020 to great acclaim, so it seemed only fitting to re-release another round of activity kits, which promise hours of family creative enjoyment, for the holiday season.

Available by the bundle or offered à la carte, each Art (Un)Boxed kit includes easy-to-follow instructions, prompts that foster creative thinking, all necessary art supplies, and special kit-specific follow-along video links featuring some of your favorite Museum instructors.

“We are thrilled to be able to offer these unique at-home Polk Museum experiences again during these unprecedented times,” said Education Manager Ellen Chastain, “We are eager to reconnect students of all ages with the Museum and their own passions for learning.”

Each Art (Un)Boxed kit is individually prepared and designed for learners of all ages and skill-sets, encouraging inspiration, exploration, and creativity from the comfort and safety of home. Each kit is inspired by the Polk Museum of Art’s permanent collection of American art and includes topics reflected through media such as printmaking, painting, sculpture, drawing, and more.

In addition, the Museum is once again partnering with CreateAskate to offer a one-of-a kind kit designed around the innovation of skate culture and artwork. Students will be able to design and create their own professional skateboard deck for hanging on their walls or taking to the streets.

“We originally imagined Art(Un)Boxed as a means simply of keeping our signature art education programs accessible even in a time of social-distance. But we were so enthralled by the feedback we received and with the unmitigated success of the kits that we decided to make it a repeat seasonal offering moving forward,” explained Dr. Alex Rich, Executive Director and Chief Curator. “The kits’ popularity showed us that there is a desire — pandemic or not — for these at-your-own-pace, any-skill-set, no-age-limit, create-at-home arts experiences all year long.”

The Art (Un)Boxed subscriptions are available for pre-order as of November 13, 2020. Art kits are designed for wide appeal, to be enjoyed by anyone ages 7 and older.  Prices range from $45 to $85 for à la carte kits, while 5-box bundles are available starting at $200.
