Weekend Workshops for Teens and Adults

Our classes and workshops give students the opportunity to associate with others with like interests and to learn new skills in a laid-back atmosphere. No matter if you’re just a beginner or a long-time artist, we base our course offerings on the underlying belief that most individuals want to be life-long learners. We offer classes and instruction for all ages and experience. All Museum instructors are certified art teachers and/or art professionals.

Kate Carney Workshops

Oil Painting, All Levels, All Inclusive, one-day and two-day options

These fun, interactive workshops include a hands-on day of painting, and artists will work along with Kate learning, growing, making messes, laughing, and best of all . . . creating. After displaying an example work implementing the techniques to be learned that day, Kate then demonstrates each stage of the process as the class progresses and gives student artists the chance to work on their own paintings. The day closes with a gentle critique and discussion.

Painting materials are provided in each workshop, including: toned canvases, oil paints, mediums, palette knives, palettes, and references. However, students must bring their own bristle brushes. (Kate recommends Princeton’s 6300 series synthetic bristle brushes, but any bristle brushes made for oil will do.):

  • #8 Round

  • #4 Flat

  • #2 Flat

This is a great opportunity for acrylic painters to try oils without the heavy paint investment. Additionally, using our paints and canvases will make it easier for you to focus on learning techniques rather than wrestling with your paints.

Suitable for all stages of artistic experience. Please bring a packed lunch.
