Back in Black 2: Sweet Nothings

The painting shown is an example of Kate’s work, but not necessarily the one being painted in the workshop.

Saturday, February 8 | 10am to 4pm

Skill Level: Beginning to Intermediate

Instructor: Kate Carney, Professional Fine Arts Painter

Fee: $150 Members, $200 Non-Members

Crows get a bad rep sometimes, but they are among the most intelligent of all birds. They can also be tender and very loyal. In this workshop, we will focus on the correct way to create luminous, chromatic blacks (no tube black!), and use dramatic highlights and color “bounce”.

Supplies:

Painting materials are provided in each Kate Carney workshop, including: toned canvases, oil paints, mediums, palette knives, palettes, and references. However, students must bring their own bristle brushes. (Kate recommends Princeton’s 6300 series synthetic bristle brushes, but any bristle brushes made for oil will do.):

  • #8 Round

  • #4 Flat

  • #2 Flat

This is a great opportunity for acrylic painters to try oils without the heavy paint investment. Additionally, using our paints and canvases will make it easier for you to focus on learning techniques rather than wrestling with your paints.

Suitable for all stages of artistic experience. Please bring a packed lunch.
